About Keith Coomber Art

About-Photo

I am a self taught, artist living in West Sussex, part time due to my day job but hoping to change that in the near future.
I have been painting and drawing all my life to various degrees, but it is only in the last few years where my love of painting and creating has taken me forward in such a way. I am now at the stage where hardly a day goes by without me painting or drawing something, whether it is an ongoing project or a new idea.
My inspirations are varied, from my life, experiences and passions, to events, people and places. Artistically, my main inspirations are as diverse as Monet, Pollack and Klimpt.
Most recently, I have realised some ideas and challenges long put off by myself and have taken on projects to paint icons of the music and entertainment industry, in styles and layouts not normally represented in paintings.

Most of my pieces are of icons such as Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis and others such as Eric Clapton, mainly in the medium of acrylic in monotone, black and white. The images I use are mostly from an age where black and white photography was the preferred style and I find the images have so much power, grace and emotion, I try to emulate this in the work I create. I have also used such imagery in creating large, bold, semi abstract portraits in colour, to juxtapose the grey tones of the black and white image.

I also paint landscapes, abstract and of course will consider commissions, recently completing several for various customers of pet dogs, which after some hesitation, I thoroughly enjoyed.
